Professor Jane Young

As a member of the Governing Council, Jane brings a population health perspective and aims to strengthen collaborations to foster cancer surgical outcomes research within Sydney Catalyst, the RPA Institute of Academic Surgery and the Surgical Outcomes Research Centre (SOuRCe).  She is a lead investigator of Sydney Catalyst’s flagship program, ‘EnRICH’, which aims to improve care and outcomes for people with lung cancer.

Background:  

Jane is an epidemiologist with a medical background and specialist training as a public health physician. She has appointments at the University of Sydney, where she holds the Chair in Cancer Epidemiology, and Sydney Local Health District where she is the Executive Director of Research at the RPA Institute of Academic Surgery and  the Executive Director of SOuRCe (Surgical Outcomes Research Centre), based at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.  She is a member of the Effective Practice and Organisation of Care (EPOC) Cochrane Review Group and is a co-author of the Cochrane Review of audit and feedback to improve professional practice and health outcomes.  

Research Interests:  

Health services research, the uptake of evidence-based practice and health outcomes studies. Current areas of focus include  the measurement and improvement of cancer care coordination, disparities in cancer care and outcomes and methods to introduce and evaluate novel, complex surgical procedures.
