Background
Dr Alison Young is Sydney Catalyst's T2/T3 Research Fellow. She
is the lead implementation researcher contributing to achieving the
translation research priorities of Sydney Catalyst and building
interdisciplinary research collaborations.
Alison has had extensive experience in oncology research,
including translation of evidence into practice, psycho-oncology,
qualitative research and clinical measurement development. Alison's
clinical and research work has focused on supporting patients and
their families in both adult and paediatric oncology. She currently
leads projects within oncology services involving the
implementation of a smoking cessation pathway and improving the
mainstreaming genetic testing pathway.
Alison completed her PhD with Professor Phyllis Butow at the
Centre for Medical Psychology and Evidence-based Decision-making
(CeMPED), the University of Sydney. Her thesis focused on improving
the communication of genetic risk amongst families with a BRCA1 or
BRCA2 pathogenic variant by identifying the information needs of
young adults and genetic-related health professional's clinical
practices.
